The Giant Mine Remediation Project Cooperation Agreement defines how the Government of Canada and Government of the Northwest Territories work together as co-proponents for the Project on the care and maintenance, and remediation of the Giant Mine Site. This Agreement complements the Environmental Agreement by defining and clarifying the roles, commitments and liabilities of CIRNAC and the GNWT.

Renewal of the Cooperation Agreement was required to ensure it reflected the updated relationship created by the decisions included in the Environmental Assessment and because it was set to expire on March 15, 2015.
