West Kitikmeot/Slave Study

The West Kitikmeot/Slave Study (WKSS) Society was a partnership of Indigenous and environmental organizations, governments and industry established in 1996. The partnership was designed to ensure effects of development on the environment, wildlife and people in the WKSS area were minimized and to ensure northern people benefitted from development.

The WKSS was a research program to provide the information base necessary to examine long and short term effects of development. The initial WKSS research program ended on March 31, 2001. The WKSS continued to fund several key projects between 2001 and 2009.
