Wildfire Details

Wildfire crews have been fully demobilized from the community of Fort Good Hope. There has been limited growth on this fire and we will continue with sustained action and close monitoring as it naturally progresses.

Dangerous trees

  • The fire burned strong and deep in the area. Trees may fall down easily in places you usually use the land. It is extremely dangerous to travel through burned areas right now. Avoid if you can, and if you must, always keep at least two treelengths between yourself and the nearest tree.

Ash pits and heat

  • This fire burned deep in the ground. There may be areas within the burnt area where there are hot ashpits which could hurt you if you fall in them. Avoid burned areas for now.

Smoke and flareups

  • The area may be smoky upon your return, and when conditions get dry and hot enough, more smoke may come. Take care of your health, and on smoky days, stay inside if you have health problems.
  • The fire is not out – you may see flare-ups happen in the distance, but the community is secure because there is very little forest fuel left nearby. Our team will continue to monitor the situation and take action as needed.

Changes in the land

  • The fire has changed the land you live on. It may be difficult to see. Take care of your mental health and each other as you return to the community – and remember that the forest will grow back.
