The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) engaged with residents regarding fire service outside of Yellowknife municipal boundaries, after the City of Yellowknife announced that they would be reducing fire service outside of municipal boundaries on April 1, 2021.

In March 2021, Municipal and Community Affairs hosted in-person and virtual meetings with residents as well as providing a survey to allow an opportunity for residents to participate in the discussion
MACA will assess the results of the engagement process and advance through the normal GNWT processes any recommendations it may have.
There is no current timeline for this work, but the Department understands the importance and timeliness of this work.
The safety of residents is a priority for the GNWT and regardless of the outcome of this work MACA is committed to working with Highway 3 and 4 residents to improve fire safety and protection of their property.
