Mr. Speaker, our government has made commitments in its mandate to investigate and implement renewable and alternative energy solutions, explore the potential for the development of hydroelectric power and transmission lines, and develop wind and solar energies to replace diesel. Transitioning away from expensive fossil fuels for home heating and electricity generation will be critical for reducing the cost of living for residents, and protecting the NWT environment.

Public Service Announcement

Fort Simpson (September 21, 2017) – The Department of Infrastructure would like to advise that as of Friday, September 22, 2017, load restrictions will be in effect for the Liard River ferry crossing (Highway 1) due to unusually low water levels.

Loads will be restricted to no more than 64,000 kg and service could be interrupted if conditions deteriorate further. The Department will make every effort to notify the public of any changes.

Public Service Announcement

Hay River (September 19, 2017) – The Department of Infrastructure would like to advise drivers that delays of an hour or more can be expected on Highways 1 and 2 on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. The delays are a result of a barge being transported from Edmonton to Hay River.

The shipment is expected to take one day and will travel along Highways 1 and 2 before travelling along Mackenzie Drive, 104 Street and 104 Avenue in Hay River.

YELLOWKNIFE (September 12, 2017) - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has submitted Expressions of Interest to the Government of Canada seeking funding for two major transportation infrastructure projects:   construction of the Slave Geological Province Access Corridor (SGP);  and projects to advance the Mackenzie Valley Highway(MVH).  Making strategic investments in transportation infrastructure and securing funding for these particular projects is a key “Economy, Environment and Climate Change” mandate item of the 18th Legislative Assembly.

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife (August 11, 2017) – The Department of Infrastructure would like to advise that road delays can be expected from August 14 to 18 on the Yellowknife Access Road due to road construction.

The project involves resurfacing a section of road in front of YK Motors, which will allow for a smoother drive. Motorists can expect delays as traffic will be reduced to two lanes.

Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories has passed legislation to establish a revolving fund for the Yellowknife Airport. This initiative will allow for significant improvements to the Airport that will enhance services for users and make the Airport a bigger economic driver for the entire North.
