McLeod confirmed today that the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has purchased the assets of Northern Transportation Company Limited (NTCL) for $7.5 million. This timely action has been taken to protect the petroleum product supply chain  for NWT communities along the Mackenzie River and Arctic coast.

Reliable and dependable barging services are a lifeline for many remote NWT communities and industries that do not have other options for obtaining fuel and other goods economically.

YELLOWKNIFE (June 8, 2016) – Minister of Public Works and Services Caroline Cochrane tabled the North Slave Resiliency Study during today’s sitting of the Legislative Assembly.

The study was undertaken in response to a commitment in the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Mandate to better use our existing hydroelectric resources by exploring options to respond to low water in the North Slave hydroelectric power system.

YELLOWKNIFE (August 21, 2015) – The renewal of the Stanton Territorial Hospital moves closer to reality with the announcement today by Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger, that Boreal Health Partnership (BHP) has been selected as the Preferred Proponent, pursuant to the GNWT’s Request for Proposals for the project.

The GNWT and BHP will be working together to finalize the Project Agreement and start the preparatory work required before construction can begin later this Fall.

Yellowknife (May 14, 2015) – The Government of the Northwest Territories has successfully completed the winter road resupply of fuel to nine communities served by the Department of Public Works and Services Fuel Services Division. A decline in the market cost of fuel made it possible for the department to reduce prices in the communities that receive fuel products via the winter road system.

The new energy activity will be comprised of functions currently in the departments of Public Works and Services, Environment and Natural Resources, Industry, Tourism and Investment and the Northwest Territories Energy Corporation that deal with energy policy and planning, research, programs and project delivery.

This decreases greenhouse-gas emissions by more than 36,000 tons since the government first started tracking its fuel and greenhouse gas reductions in 2007.
