YELLOWKNIFE (February 20, 2018) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) released today the NWT Disability Strategic Framework: 2017 to 2027. This framework outlines a ten-year shared direction and commitment by the GNWT, its disability partners and stakeholders towards advancing equity, accessibility, inclusion, and participation by persons with disabilities in all aspects of economic and social life in the NWT.
YELLOWKNIFE (February 8, 2018) – Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services, announced that the government has finalized the regulations under the new Mental Health Act.
The regulations will guide health professionals’ delivery of short term care and treatment to individuals with chronic and acute mental health disorders in situations where there is an immediate risk to their safety or the safety of others. The regulations outline the process to ensure the protection of patient rights.
YELLOWKNIFE (February 5, 2018) – The Honourable Caroline Cochrane, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), and the Honourable Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services (HSS), today announced a key decision in the program design for the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) new 9-1-1 service: an in-house Primary Public Safety Answering Point will be established, co-located with the existing HSS Med-Response program.
YELLOWKNIFE (February 1, 2018) - Interior design concept boards for the new Stanton Territorial Hospital are complete and available for public viewing.
The concepts were developed by Kasian Architects with input from a panel of regional NWT representatives. Engagement sessions took place in December 2016 and June 2017 to ensure that the designs accurately reflected the cultural needs of our population.
OTTAWA (February 1, 2018) – Premier Bob McLeod, accompanied by Minister Glen Abernethy, was in Ottawa to present the Arctic Indigenous Wellness Foundation with the 2017 Arctic Inspiration Prize.
