October 29, 2010 -  The Minister of Health and Social Service highlighted some of the recommendations from the Report of the Supplementary Health Benefits Joint Working Group.

Mr. Speaker, decisions surrounding Health care, particularly who pays and for what, are some of the most contentious and sensitive that a government faces. We have seen this over the past few years as we have attempted to resolve the inconsistencies between uninsured supplementary health benefits programs in the NWT.

October 28, 2010 - Minister of Finance, J. Michael Miltenberger says fiscal arrangements included in the proposed draft Devolution Agreement-in-Principle (AiP) are consistent with what Canadian provinces receive in transfer payments from the federal government.

“No province receiving Equalization payments receives better treatment for their (onshore) resources than is proposed in the draft Devolution AiP,” the Minister advised Members of the 16th Legislative Assembly today.

Mr. Speaker, in a modern world filled with laptop computers, cell phones and iPods, traditional life skills such as trapping and boat building that have served our people so well in the past are in danger of being lost.

October 27, 2010 - The Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty, presented the Government of the Northwest Territories' NWT Aboriginal Languages Plan - A Shared Responsibility today.

Mr. Speaker, later today I will table the Government of the Northwest Territories’ NWT Aboriginal Languages Plan – A Shared Responsibility. The Plan was crafted after reviewing the Standing Committee on Government Operations report, Reality Check – Securing a Future for the Official Languages of the Northwest Territories.

October 26, 2010 - Premier Floyd K. Roland says concerns that Devolution will impact existing land claims and current land, resources and self-government negotiations are unfounded.

In the first of a series of statements he will make to clarify misconceptions and misinformation arising out of the leak of the proposed Agreement-in-Principle (AiP), the Premier refuted speculation that approval of a draft AiP will prejudice current Aboriginal rights negotiations or violate existing land claims agreements.

October 25, 2010 - Today, Minister of Industry, Tourism, and Investment, Bob McLeod, talked about the Government's innovative multi-year campaign, "Come Make Your Mark," which is designed to increase awareness across Canada of the tremendous career opportunities available in the Northwest Territories in an effort to get Canadians to live and work here long-term.

Mr. Speaker, the Northwest Territories has a very bright future. The economic opportunities our territory possesses in tourism, mining, oil and gas and more are significant.
