Mr. Speaker, I would like to update the Members on how the Governments of Canada and the Northwest Territories are making investments in our communities that will bring economic opportunities for residents and businesses and revitalize municipal infrastructure.

Mr. Speaker, today I provide an overview of how GNWT departments, the Federal Government and the water boards collaborate to ensure high quality drinking water is provided to residents across the Northwest Territories.
Mr. Speaker, this year, the Northwest Territories Association of Communities celebrates 50 years of collaboration and partnership among community governments and with the Government of the Northwest Territories.
Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories has made a commitment in the Mandate to pursue new federal funding for the enhancement of community government infrastructure.
Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to rise today and extend my best wishes to the 270 athletes, coaches and managers from 18 communities who will make up Team NWT at the 2016 Arctic Winter Games being held in Nuuk, Greenland from March 5th to 11th.
Mr. Speaker, the first priority identified the by the 18th Legislative Assembly talks about improving governance by increasing accountability, transparency, collaboration and building stronger relationships with community governments and stakeholders.
Mr. Speaker, community governments are critical partners in building a strong and independent North. As we near the end of our term, it is a good time to look back at the work we have done to support community governments and the challenges that still remain.
Mr. Speaker, as many Members will have seen earlier today in the Great Hall, the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs and Canadian Tire Corporation announced a new partnership to support physical activity and sport opportunities for NWT children and youth.
Mr. Speaker, this government is committed to achieving this Legislative Assembly’s vision of strong individuals, families and communities. By working together in partnerships we can reach our goal of healthy and educated people in sustainable and vibrant communities throughout our territory.
Mr. Speaker, today I am very proud to rise and recognize that two of our very own have been elected to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
