Before Minister McLeod gets into his presentation, I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce you to the Northwest Territories and some of the challenges we face.

Grand Chief, elders, community leaders, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for the opportunity to speak to you today. It is a pleasure to be back in Jean Marie River and to see many familiar faces.
There have been a few changes since the last Dehcho First Nations Annual General Assembly.
Mr. Speaker, June 21st is National Aboriginal Day.
Mr. Speaker, I’m pleased to provide an update on efforts to support gender equality in the Northwest Territories today.
Mr. Speaker, last week I had the honour to participate in the 2nd National Roundtable on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Winnipeg.
Mr. Speaker, advancing, finalizing and implementing land, resources and self-government agreements is one of the key priorities of the 18th Legislative Assembly and one of my personal priorities.
Mr. Speaker, building a strong and sustainable future for the Northwest Territories by strengthening our relationships with Aboriginal governments has been one of the key priorities of the 17th Legislative Assembly.
Mr. Speaker, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is an important milestone in Canada’s history.
