Launch of the Volunteer Support Initiative

Communiqués de presse

YELLOWKNIFE (November 9, 2012) – Today Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) and Minister Responsible for Youth, released an updated strategic plan supporting volunteer development in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

“The Volunteer Support Initiative is a strategy designed to help build the next generation of NWT volunteers” said McLeod.  “We need to continue supporting the great work being done by today’s volunteers and look to the future by building that same spirit in youth”.

The renewed Volunteer Support Initiative was developed using the results of the 2009 Volunteer Summit, where participants from across the NWT expressed their needs, concerns, and ideas surrounding the voluntary sector. MACA also used input from young people who participated in the Youth Ambassador Programs from 2010 to 2012.

The strategic plan is available online at the MACA site.

Supporting volunteers in our communities is one of the ways the Government of the Northwest Territories is working towards the 17th Legislative Assembly’s goal of sustainable, vibrant, and safe communities.
