Communiqués de presse

November 29, 2010 - Mr. Burton Campbell’s dedication to making every visitors’ experience at Blackstone Territorial Park in the Dehcho region a spectacular one has earned him the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s (ITI) 2010 Parks Award.

The award is part of ITI’s Happy Camper Program, which was created in 2005 to recognize people who exhibit extraordinary hospitality and service in our parks and visitor centres.

“Burton Campbell is a fine example of the outstanding individuals that staff our parks, campgrounds and visitor centres,” says Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Bob McLeod. “It is people like Mr. Campbell, through their commitment and dedication to their duties, who help ensure travellers get the very best experience in our wonderful territory.”

“I’m honoured to have received this award,” says Mr. Campbell. “Blackstone Territorial Park is one of the many great parks and campgrounds in the NWT. My goal every day I come to work is to make the stay of guests in the park as safe and as enjoyable as possible.”

Parks and visitor centre staff members are considered for the award through nominations submitted by visitors to the territory. Nomination forms are available at visitor centres, parks and campgrounds across the territory.

Through employee recognition programs like the 2010 Parks Award and its investment in the territorial system of parks and campgrounds, the GNWT continues to support a sustainable tourism industry and is working towards diversifying the economy as envisioned in the 16th Legislative Assembly’s Northerners Working Together plan.
