Appointment of Chief Public Health Officer

May 16, 2011 - Dr. Lorne Clearsky will assume responsibility as Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) for the Northwest Territories. He was appointed by Health and Social Services Minister Michael Miltenberger today.

Dr. Kandola who provided Acting CPHO coverage will return to her former responsibility as Deputy Chief Public Health Officer (DCPHO).

Dr. Clearsky was a Deputy Medical Officer of Health for the Calgary Health Region, and served as Program Director in the Community Medicine Residency Program and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, at the University of Calgary.

“I would like to welcome Dr. Lorne Clearsky who brings great experience in dealing with Aboriginal health and chronic disease issues,” said Minister Miltenberger. “I would also like to thank Dr. Kandola for her outstanding work as Acting Chief Public Health Officer during our search for a new CPHO and who for personal reasons will return to her DCPHO role.”

“I am excited to begin working as the Chief Public Health Officer for the Northwest Territories. I look forward to working with Dr. Kandola, the team in the Health and Social Services Ministry, and the communities in the Northwest Territories," said Dr. Clearsky.
