Free Agriculture Sessions Open to the Public

YELLOWKNIFE (October 19, 2016) – The public is invited to attend a series of free agriculture sessions in Yellowknife with internationally-renowned speakers.

Sessions include:

  • North of 60 Gardening Workshop with Dr. Seefeldt: Sunday, October 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Museum Auditorium – hosted by Yellowknife Community Garden Collective
  • Film Screening: Seed: The Untold Story with internationally renowned speaker, Winona LaDuke – Monday, October 24 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Museum Auditorium – Hosted by Ecology North and Northern Farm Training Institute
  • Public Talk with Winona Laduke: Food Sovereignty and Self-Determination – Tuesday, October 25 from 7:00 – 9:30pm at Northern United Place – hosted by Dechinta Bush University, Dene Nahjo and the Yellowknives Dene First Nation
  • YK Food Matters: A Pecha Kucha Night – Thursday, October 27 from 7:00 – 10:00pm at the Museum Auditorium – hosted by Yellowknife Farmers Market

These public sessions are being sponsored by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment in collaboration with local non-profit organizations.  They are aligned with the GNWT’s mandate to address the cost of living in the NWT; and serve to advance GNWT investments designed to increase domestic food production, improve distribution networks for NWT developed foods and increase producer and supplier opportunities.
