YELLOWKNIFE (November 17, 2016) – Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Alfred Moses tabled the Skills 4 Success 4-Year Action Plan 2016-2020 on November 4, targeting actions to improve employment success for the people of the Northwest Territories.
Action Plan 2016-2020 supports the Skills 4 Success 10-Year Strategic Framework and contains four foundational goals related to skills development, streamlined supports, NWT workforce partnerships, and labour market information. It is based on evidence from extensive research on adult and postsecondary education and training, feedback from informed stakeholder engagements, and comprehensive up-to-date labour market information for the NWT. It supports evidence-based decision making and provides a solid path to determine appropriate programs and supports so that residents are better prepared for future employment opportunities.
The Skills 4 Success Framework and Action Plan support the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Mandate commitment to Education, Training and Youth Development by expanding opportunities for post-secondary education, trades-oriented learning, and northern education institutions.
“We want northern residents to be first in line for jobs in the NWT. We also want to help build and expand a skilled workforce to meet our future labour demand. To do this, we must ensure that our education and training system keeps pace with the changing dynamics of our labour market, so that NWT residents gain the necessary education and skills required to be successful in their employment pursuits.”
