Economic/Human Considerations

Moderate to significant economic importance as pest of homes, dried meats and fish, cheese, poultry houses, beehives. Feeds on almost any animal substance either dry or in the process of decomposition; has often been recorded as predator on egg masses of the gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar (L.) (Schaefer and Beal 1996).
