Contract for Stanton Territorial Hospital Renewal Project signed

News Releases

YELLOWKNIFE (September 24, 2015) – Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger announced today that the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has signed an agreement with Boreal Health Partnership (BHP) to design, build, finance and maintain the Stanton Territorial Hospital.

The GNWT selected BHP following an evaluation of competitive proposals submitted by pre-qualified proponents.  Today’s announcement formalizes the selection of BHP as the preferred proponent to work on the hospital.

“This is a major step to ensuring the residents of the Northwest Territories will benefit from a state-of-the-art hospital built to current national standards,” said Minister Miltenberger.  “Construction on the new hospital, which will start this fall, will see the current facility replaced by a new purpose-designed facility that will address patient needs and provide high-quality health care delivery.”

“This is a key milestone in the Stanton Renewal Project,” said Minister of Health and Social Services Glen Abernethy. “The features and enhancements that will be included in the new state-of-the-art facility will improve the patient experience, and will ensure that NWT residents continue to receive the best care and best health possible.”

“We are very excited to begin work on the new Stanton Territorial Hospital and continue to build a long term relationship with the GNWT,” said Edmund Mahabir, representative for the BHP consortium.  “BHP has developed an innovative solution for construction of the new hospital and the delivery of facilities management services that will provide excellent value for the people of the Northwest Territories.”

The new hospital will include a floor area of over 280,000 square feet and will offer outpatient and inpatient services including emergency, medical imaging, dialysis, obstetrics, pediatric, cardio and mental health departments as well as day procedure and surgery suites.

Boreal Health Partnership is a consortium consisting of Carillion/Hochtief PPP Solutions North America/Bird Capital as the developers, with Bird Construction, Clark Builders and Kasian Architects as the Design Builder and Carillion Canada Inc. as the Service Provider.
