YELLOWKNIFE (May 6, 2016) - A targeted Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) marketing initiative is putting 30,000 pocket-sized guides to NWT parks and campgrounds into the hands of identified Alberta RV-ers and campers this week.
With a downswing in the economy and the lower Canadian dollar, it is anticipated that many Albertans will opt for road holidays within Canada this summer. The NWT’s world-class parks and campgrounds offer a unique and attractive holiday destination.
The up-to-date and attractive guide is designed to encourage visitation with a thorough, concise outline of how to get to camping destinations, suggestions on where to camp, and what attractions are nearby for travelling visitors.
It is one of many actions the Department of ITI is taking to attract more rubber-tire traffic in support of a thriving tourism industry for the NWT. As tourism is an identified sector for community-level economic growth, investment in marketing initiatives to build the sector is a priority.
Additional copies of the NWT Road and Campground Guide will be available in visitor centers across the NWT and throughout adjoining provinces and Yukon Territory. The guide is also available online and mailed on request to interested individuals and parties through Northwest Territories Tourism.
The ongoing maintenance, development and investment in the NWT’s spectacular system of parks and campgrounds are a significant part of the GNWT’s work towards the 18th Legislative Assembly’s priorities in economic diversification and environmental stewardship.
