Second species to emerge and is common, but not attacking in large numbers characteristic of hexodontus nearer the treeline
Habitat
Only arctic species that does not extend south in the mountains,confined to tundra north of the tree line, larger tundra ponds that have grass or sedge margins, larval density is low

Eight locations prior to 1979 - on tundra: Banks -1 , western Victoria Isl - 2, Mack delta -3, Cape Baturst, YK, Muskox lake (approx) (B159); Ft smith (2004, 2013), Ft Simpson (2004, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2013), Snap Lake (2004), Yellowknife (2004), Norman Wells (2005) 13 Occurrences in all ecozones in the NWT
