This is an infrequently collected species. Most specimens have been taken at carrion and carrion-baited pitfall traps and in flight-intercept traps. Some records are from rotting mushrooms. There is one record each for nests of a meadow mouse, a marmot, and a weasel. Most habitat records are for sphagnum bogs, boreal spruce forests, or from open tundra-like vegetation, but there are records from tall grass prairie, mixed deciduous forests, and aspen forests.
