Status Rank Description:
A gap in the data is making this species appear vulnerable, when there is no indication that this is the case. Gaps in the taxonomic record do not represent real gaps and likely reflect a lack of collection effort rather than real rarity, particularly because the collection of these flies was opportunistic, rather than intended to establish occurrence or abundance. As well, northern localities are often difficult to access and collecting there is often limited. This species is common and widespread in boreal areas in Canada. Although records in the Northwest Territories are limited (6), this species is present in neighboring regions- Yukon Territory, Nunavut, British Columbia, and Alberta (Griffiths 1991b, 1997). A conservative assessment would put this species at secure to apparently secure in the Northwest Territories, since although there is no indication that this species is under any threat, it is possible.
