In Canada this ant is known from YK and likely ranges in northern BC, NT, NU and northern ON, QC and NL. Palearctic species. The Yukon record was the first for North America. Considered an Arctic species and appears to be circumpolar, replaces Formica fusca within ecosystems in the north (www.antweb.org).
