Number of Occurrences

There are 23 records of this species from NT in examined Canadian collection databases; they are all in the CMN collected from 1944-1950 (Lepitzki 2013). All the known records are at least 60 years old., the 3 Illinois Natural History Museum records for Stagnicola emarginata are problematic: Stagnicola emarginata (Say, 1821) 60291 00 August 1921 Canada, Northwest Territories, Mackenzie River, Lake Kakisa, near mouth Beaver River, W of Great Slave about latitude 61, North America, 60.93644 -117.42737 Stagnicola emarginata (Say, 1821) 60304E.J. Whittaker 00 August 1921 Canada, Northwest Territories, Mackenzie River, Lake Kakisa, NW end of lake, North America, 61.01410 -117.94868 Stagnicola emarginata (Say, 1821) 60305E.J. Whittaker 00 August 1921 Canada, Northwest Territories, Mackenzie River, Lake Kakisa, NW end of lake, North America, 61.01410 -117.94868 The above records may have duplicates in CMN possibly identified as other species because Clarke was the curator there, but the lat-longs, dates, and site descriptions do not overlap exactly. So, I agree that Stagnicola emarginata should be ranked as "Reported but doubtful" from NT. You could also contact Jeremy to see his views on the 3 records.

Status Rank Description:
- All the known records are at least 60 years old.Clarke (1981) does not recognize this species and earlier (Clarke 1973: 345) synonymized it with Stagnicola catascopium, a view not shared by Turgeon et al. (1998) or more recently by Johnson et al. (2013). Others have synonymized S. elodes with S. catascopium and S. emarginata so the whole thing could be considered a mess, or a work in progress!
