1 individual captured at Deadmen Valley Warden Station 2006 in Nahanni National Park Reserve (R160), plus unconfirmed records (from acoustic recordings) from 5 other sites in Nahanni National Park Reserve in 2006 (R160). Lausen et al. (2014) (peer-reviewed reference for the Nahanni National Park survey), Wilson et al. (2014) (review that confirms there are no other records of this species in NWT).

Threats

White-nose syndrome (WNS) is a fungal disease associated with mass die-offs of hibernating bats. WNS has killed more than 5.5 million bats in the northeastern United States and eastern Canada. It continues to spread rapidly but has not yet reached western or northern Canada (www.whitenosesyndrome.org).

Status Rank Description: 
White-nose syndrome (WNS) is not documented in this species yet but that may be because they are a western species and WNS has not arrived in the west yet. As a hibernating Myotis, this species is expected to be vulnerable to WNS if and when the disease spreads to the west. A survey of western bat biologists in 2013 ranked the level of WNS risk for this species as between ‘uncertain’ and ‘definite’ (Western Bat Working Group survey, 2013).
