Considered to be "Not Currently At Risk" by Wings Over Water: Canada's waterbird conservation plan. Environment Canada, Ottawa ON. Trend in the NWT is unclear, but significant declines have been observed at colonies in Nunavut and other parts of the circumpolar range (Petersen, A. et al. The status of glaucous gulls Larus hyperboreus in the circumpolar Arctic - in press). Possible that declining trend may be occurring in the NWT as well, but has not been quantified.
