Distribution

Distribution

The minimum area polygon for this species based on known locality records in the Northwest Territories (Griffiths 1987) is approximately 18,000 km sq. However, this species is also present in the Yukon, and British Columbia and Alberta (Griffiths 1987), hence a wider range extent was assigned (range F)

Number of Occurrences

There are 3 known locality records for this species in the Northwest Territories: the former Salmita Mines, near Courageous Lake; Muskox Lake (Griffiths 1987); and likely Hay River (information inferred from distribution map fig. 964 (Griffiths 1987) and based on NIS collection records in Huckett (1965)). Given the likelihood that this species is more widespread (see range extent), a wide occurrence range was selected (6->300).

Status Rank Description:
A gap in the data is making this species appear vulnerable, when there is no indication that this is the case. Gaps in the taxonomic record do not represent real gaps and likely reflect a lack of collection effort rather than real rarity. This species’ distribution is extensive in Western Canada, extending from Churchill (Manitoba) to Dawson (Yukon Territory). Although there are gaps in the data (only three records from NT), because these records are northern, it more than likely due to the difficulty of accessing northern site. A conservative assessment would put this species at secure to apparently secure, since although there is no indication that this species is under any threat, it is possible.
