General distribution cosmopolitan. In Canada, the species has been recorded from the NWT, Nunavut, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario. Two different cryptic lineages have been detected for the species in Canada: L1 (Nunavut: Porco et al. 2012) and L2 (Manitoba and Alberta: Porco et al. 2012, 2014) (in Babenko et al. 2019).
