Territorial Premiers Renew a Shared Vision for Canada’s North

YELLOWKNIFE (September 4, 2014) – Canada’s territorial Premiers renewed their collaborative vision for the North at the Northern Premiers’ Forum in Yellowknife today.

A Northern Vision: Building a Better North outlines a vision for the North shared by the governments of the Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut. It will help the territories to continue working together to ensure the North is a region of vibrant, healthy communities with sound economies and diverse opportunities, and where the environment is protected for future generations.

Selection of Preferred Proponent Advances Mackenzie Valley Fibre Link Project

YELLOWKNIFE (July 30, 2014) – The installation of a high-speed fibre optic link connecting communities in the Mackenzie Valley and Beaufort Delta to the fibre grid in southern Canada is one step closer today with the announcement by Minister of Finance J. Michael Miltenberger that the Northern Lights Fibre Consortium has been selected as the preferred proponent to design, build, finance and operate the Mackenzie Valley Fibre Link (MVFL).

Once again, the conference organizers have done a phenomenal job putting together one of the premier oil and gas events in the country. The people of Inuvik and the Beaufort Delta have always had the drive and initiative to get things done.

Bob McLeod – Federal-Provincial-Territorial Ministers Responsible for Status of Women

As Members of this House are aware the Government of the Northwest Territories will host the 32nd Annual Meeting of Federal-Provincial-Territorial Ministers Responsible for the Status of Women on June 19 and 20, 2014 in Dettah. I look forward to co-chairing this important meeting with the Honourable Kellie Leitch, the Federal Minister for the Status of Women.

Robert C. McLeod – Update on Investments in Housing Infrastructure

Mr. Speaker, addressing housing needs is a priority of the 17th Legislative Assembly and the NWT Housing Corporation. This year is the first year of a multi-year plan that will see considerable investments in housing infrastructure that will have significant impacts on housing in our communities.

Overall the NWT Housing Corporation expects to spend approximately $48 million on housing infrastructure during 2014-15 and, Mr. Speaker, today I wanted to provide an update on this work.

NWT Residents Invited to Review Devolution Legislation

YELLOWKNIFE (May 29, 2014) – Over the next three months NWT residents will have the opportunity to seek clarification, ask questions and learn more about  the new Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) devolution legislation and authorities. The public review fulfills a commitment made by Premier Bob McLeod during the last Session of the Legislative Assembly.
