Wildfire Details

2026WB004, 2026WB009, SS004-26 | Wood Buffalo National Park firesThanks to the considerable rain the WBNP received, the current fire danger in the park is low. This fire size has been reassessed and is estimated at 53,124 hectares and is classified as out of control.

The Government of Northwest Territories continues to provide mutual aid through airtanker and helicopter support, and wildfire crews are deployed to the park to assist. For details on these fires and actions to manage them, and weather updates visit: https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/nt/woodbuffalo/nature/science_nature/fire_management/feu-foret-fire

Due to a 200-foot ceiling between the treetops and cloud cover, aircraft and crews were unable to reach the fire today. Crews stayed productive in camp, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and updating their training. They will be ready to get back to the fire tomorrow if the weather allows.

Parks Canada and GNWT will continue to work under a unified command with the objective of reducing the fires’ growth toward the communities of Fort Resolution and Little Buffalo

Sprinklers continue to be maintained on values at Grande Détour and north of Salt River by GNWT wildfire management staff as a precaution.

Current Resources: 244 personnel, 15 helicopters and 6 fuel bowsers.
