GNWT Contribution to Betty House

February 10, 2012 - Mr. Speaker, for the past number of years the Yellowknife Homelessness Coalition has been working on Betty House, which is an initiative to build and operate a transitional house for women and children that are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.  Betty House will help these women and children to stabilize, to move forward, and to make positive life choices.

NWT Housing Corporation providing funding to BETTY House

YELLOWKNIFE (Feb. 10, 2012) –  The Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC) is pleased to announce today that it will be providing $2.3 million toward the construction of transitional housing for single women and women with children. This contribution to the Yellowknife Homelessness Coalition and YWCA Yellowknife for the construction of this housing project supports a critical shelter need in the NWT.

GNWT Looking to Revamp Housing Programs

June 23, 2011 - NWT residents are invited to participate in a review that will refocus the GNWT’s approach to providing housing programs and services.

The Shelter Policy Review will include workshops with regional and community leadership, meetings with residents, clients, and non-government organizations that provide housing services, and an online survey for NWT residents.

Joe Greenland Centre Transitions

November 16, 2010 - Minister of Health and Social Services Sandy Lee and Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation Robert C. McLeod, announced that the focus of the Joe Greenland Centre will be on independent living and day programming for seniors. Current residents requiring long term care will be placed by the Territorial Admissions Committee according to their care needs. The Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC) is now considering options to renovate the units currently administered by Health and Social Services.
