Caroline Cochrane: 2018 Arctic Winter Games

Mr. Speaker, it is my pleasure to provide Members with information on the 2018 Arctic Winter Games, which are being hosted from March 18 to March 24 in the South Slave Region.

The Northwest Territories has been an active participant in the Arctic Winter Games since their inception in 1970.  These games are an important celebration of sport and culture for youth from the circumpolar region. We are proud to host the 2018 Games, and we are even more proud of Team NT who will be representing the Northwest Territories.

Robert C. McLeod: 2030 NWT Climate Change Strategic Framework

Mr. Speaker, this Legislative Assembly made a mandate commitment to develop a territorial climate change strategy that takes into account northern energy demands and the cost of living, while reflecting international and national commitments to lower greenhouse gas emissions, exploring options for carbon pricing systems, and capturing local alternatives.

Caroline Cochrane: Northwest Territories Housing Corporation Mandate Commitment Update and Strategic Renewal

Mr. Speaker, I would like to report on the Government of the Northwest Territories’ progress on its housing-related Mandate commitments and on the Strategic Renewal process currently underway at the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation.

First, among the mandate commitments  laid out by the Government of the Northwest Territories is a promise to address the cost of living, in part by continuing to implement northern solutions for northern housing and working to address homelessness.

Glen Abernethy: Community Wellness Initiatives

Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories has a mandate commitment to foster healthy families by focusing on wellness, prevention and improved nutrition.

To achieve this commitment, the Department of Health and Social Services has made it a priority to support Community Wellness Initiatives in communities across the NWT with funding provided through Indigenous Services Canada.
