Glen Abernethy: On-the-Land Collaborative Fund

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to provide Members with an update on an exciting new initiative to support On The Land programming in the Northwest Territories.

Mr. Speaker, we know that there is huge demand for On The Land programs in the NWT. They are important components of community wellness, healing, healthy living, and environmental stewardship and protection. They support the traditional economy, sustainable livelihoods, and building capacity in our communities.

Stuart Hodgson memorial

YELLOWKNIFE (February 15, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories will hold a public memorial service to celebrate the life of former Commissioner Stuart Hodgson on February 19 at 3:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly in Yellowknife. A reception hosted by Commissioner George Tuccaro will follow.

Statement from Premier Bob McLeod on Mr. Stuart Hodgson

YELLOWKNIFE (December 20, 2015) – Premier Bob McLeod issued the following statement on the passing of former Commissioner Stuart Hodgson:

"I was saddened to learn of the death of Stuart Hodgson on Friday, December 18. As Commissioner of the Northwest Territories (NWT) from 1962 to 1979, Mr. Hodgson laid the foundation for responsible, representative government for the NWT.

Seventy Two Hour Notice of Closure

FORT SIMPSON (November 2, 2015) – The MV Lafferty (Liard River) Ferry on Highway 1 to Fort Simpson and the MV Johnny Berens (Mackenzie River) Ferry on Highway 1 to Wrigley have been placed on 72-hour notice of closure as of 0800 November 02, 2015.

The Department will continue to monitor water levels and ice conditions on a regular basis and will advise drivers should conditions change. Changes to water levels and ice conditions may warrant a sudden closure.

Yellowknife Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office moving to 5015 49th Street.

YELLOWKNIFE (October 15, 2015) –The Yellowknife Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office will be at a new location as of October 26, 2015. The office will be located on the ground floor of the new government building at 5015 49th Street. This move will take place over the weekend in order to avoid any interruption of service or inconvenience to the public.

Community-driven exhibit tells story of Yellowknife’s original inhabitants

YELLOWKNIFE (September 22, 2015) - The Yellowknives Dene First Nation (YKDFN) and the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) invite you to the official opening of This Land Is Our Home, Wıìlıìdeh Yellowknives Dene.

The exhibit features artifacts, traditional clothing, tools, photographs, and historical information on the Dene who have lived in and around Wıìlıìcheh (Yellowknife Bay) and Wıìlıìdeh (Yellowknife River) for thousands of years. 

Multiple bear sightings at Hidden Lake Territorial Park

YELLOWKNIFE (September 3, 2015) – The public is asked to refrain from using the Cameron Falls Trail and parking lot that are located in Hidden Lake Territorial Park until further notice due to bear sightings in the area. Hidden Lake Park is on the Ingraham Trail approximately 47 km east of Yellowknife.

A temporary blockade is restricting access to the Hidden Lake Territorial Park parking lot to ensure public safety at this time.

Les messages ci-dessous sont des mises à jour provenant de diverses agences gouvernementales qui œuvrent contre cet incendie de forêt.

La prochaine mise à jour de sécurité publique sera émise le lundi 17 août 2015, à moins que l’incendie autour du lac Reid prenne sérieusement de l’ampleur entre-temps.

La division de la Sécurité publique émettra une nouvelle mise à jour le jeudi 13 août 2015, à moins que la situation au lac Reid prenne sérieusement de l’ampleur entre-temps.
