February 2, 2011 - In his Sessional Statement to Members of the Legislative Assembly, Premier Floyd K. Roland today highlighted how the devolution agreement-in-principle (AiP) has moved the Assembly closer to achieving its goal of a strong and independent Territory.
Mr. Speaker, I'd like to welcome Members back to the House. I look forward to working with all of you during this last Budget Session of the 16th Legislative Assembly.
January 26, 2011 - During the devolution agreement-in-principle signing, Premier Roland highlighted the benefits of signing the AiP.
First of all Minister Duncan, on behalf of all NWT residents, I say “welcome” on your latest visit to the Northwest Territories in your capacity as Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs. We hope this is one of many visits, and we look forward to working with you to strengthen the north, for the benefit of northerners and all Canadians.
January 21, 2011 - Later this week, Canada and the Northwest Territories will sign an agreement-in-principle to negotiate the devolution of Crown land and resources to the Government of the Northwest Territories.
Devolution is the key to unlocking the full potential of our territory.
After years of negotiations, we finally have an agreement-in-principle that can serve as the basis for negotiating a final devolution agreement that will create real economic benefits for all NWT residents.
December 7, 2010 - Speaking at the 9th Annual Aboriginal Oil and Gas Forum, Minister Bob McLeod highlighted the many partnerships and joint ventures Aboriginal people have struck, particularly in resource development, and how they are creating economic growth in the NWT.

November 8, 2010 - Premier Roland delivered a keynote speech to the Arctic Future Seminar in Helsinki, Finland today.
Good afternoon and thank you for the opportunity to speak with you today.The subject of today’s seminar is one of particular interest to myself and to the people of the Northwest Territories. We have acutely experienced the rapid change that has characterized the Arctic in recent years and confronted the questions of what that change means to the interests and perspectives of Northerners.
November 4, 2010 - Premier Roland highlighted the next steps towards devolution today in the Legislative Assembly.
Mr. Speaker, the transfer of authority for public lands and resources to the Government of the Northwest Territories will create major benefits and opportunities for our people.
Approval of the proposed AiP will be a critical step in our negotiations with Canada, but it is just another step. It is not the final agreement and it will not be legally binding.
