Mr. Speaker, five years after the Government of the Northwest Territories launched Marine Transportation Services, I am glad to announce the completion of a successful fifth sailing season.

Mr. Speaker, I welcome my colleagues back to the House for the resumption of the Second Session of the 19th Legislative Assembly. Thank you for the introduction and the invitation to meet with your membership today.

I closed my comments to you last year by saying how much I was looking forward to seeing you all “in person” in 2021. But here we are again, meeting virtually.

It is a pleasure to address you today as part of this long running event.

It would of course be far more enjoyable for each of us to be under the midnight sun in person. Instead, I have turned my mind to next year and to the message I can deliver at what appears to be a turning point in this stage of response to global pandemic. If the trends continue, next year we will all be able to gather once again in Inuvik, in the Beaufort Delta – at the height of the summer solstice and speak and meet with you in person.
