Celebrating Home Support Workers – June 28, 2011

Communiqués de presse

June 27, 2011 - Home Support Workers across the Northwest Territories are being recognized tomorrow (June 28th) on Home Support Worker Day.

Home Support Workers support daily living activities and provide health services to NWT residents in their own homes and communities. Their services enable residents to enjoy the independence and comfort of their own home as long as possible before entering a hospital or long term care facility which may not be located in their community.

This theme for this year’s commemoration is Helping Hands in Your Home for Your Independence.

“Home Support Workers work tirelessly, effectively and with innovation to ensure our people get the care they need,” Minister of Health and Social Services J. Michael Miltenberger says.  “They embody the GNWT’s goal of a team-based, client-focused approach to providing sustainable, quality health and social services programs in the NWT.”

There are more than 65 Home Support Workers in the Northwest Territories facilitating a broad range of community care services including: social support, meals on wheels, management of medications, and follow up visits following hospital stays.
