Chief T’Selehye School Celebrates Grand Opening

Communiqués de presse

January 14, 2011 - Fort Good Hope is celebrating the official grand opening of the new Chief T’Selehye School today with a community feast, drum dance and jig dance following the opening ceremony.

“The new school was a priority for the community, and from the very start students, teachers and community members were consulted in the planning process,” says the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty. “New features, more storage space, open areas, and a sound structure allow students to learn in an uninhibited atmosphere. This new structure helps reach our territory-wide goal for better student achievement.”

The new school offers classes from Kindergarten to grade 12, and boasts several new features including an enhanced office area, a well lit and viewable gymnasium with separate community and school use storage areas, and a beautiful kitchen and breakfast room. With its wide open space, the break out areas at each end of the school offer areas for students to lounge in. The school also features a Slavey classroom and beautiful library for use by the whole community.

The Chief T’Selehye School project was a joint venture involving the Departments of Education, Culture and Employment, and Public Works and Services.
