YELLOWKNIFE (August 24, 2012) – Premier Bob McLeod has announced Gabriela Eggenhofer as the new Deputy Minister for the Department of Education, Culture and Employment. This appointment will be effective September 10, 2012.

Ms. Eggenhofer has lived in the Northwest Territories for over 20 years and has been working for the GNWT in various capacities during that time. She has been the Deputy Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations for the past 7 years. She has also served as Associate Deputy Minister and Deputy Secretary to Cabinet in the Department of Executive. She has a Masters’ Degree in Public Administration and has worked in the field of Aboriginal rights for much of her career. Most recently, she led the development of “Respect, Recognition, Responsibility”, the foundation of the GNWT’s new approach to working with Aboriginal governments in the NWT. This Aboriginal Engagement Strategy was developed based on discussion with Aboriginal governments and community leaders about how to strengthen the government-to-government relationship.

“I am pleased to welcome Ms. Eggenhofer to the Department of Education, Culture and Employment,” said Premier McLeod. “She will be a strong leader and I look forward to working with her to build a strong, sustainable future for our territory. I would also like to thank Ms. Gloria Iatridis, who has been serving as Acting Deputy Minister since May.”

Ms. Iatridis will resume her position as Associate Deputy Minister with Education, Culture and Employment. Mr. Andy Bevan, Director of Intergovernmental Relations, will be Acting Deputy Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations.
