May 2, 2011 - Fred Henne Territorial Park has been recognized as a Favourite Overall RV Destination in the 2011 Reader's Choice Awards from RV West Magazine.
Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Bob McLeod says the award is a significant accomplishment because it is awarded by people who have camped in the park and reflects the results and accomplishments of ITI park staff and contractors dedicated to ensuring that the park is kept in top-notch condition for visitors to enjoy.
Every year, RV West surveys readers of both its website and magazine to give readers an opportunity to select a series of “RVing favourites”.
“The award confirms that the Northwest Territories has some of the best parks in Western North America,” the Minister said.
The Fred Henne Campground is operated by the Bottomline PR Company under an annual contract with the GNWT’s Department of Industry Tourism and Investment.
ITI Regional Superintendent Tracy St Denis presented Lisa Tesar and Lona Collins from Bottomline PR Company with the framed Certificate of Recognition from RV West Magazine prior to the North Slave Region’s seasonal lot draw yesterday.
“Together with their team, these individuals have played a key part in building and developing the award-winning product that we have established at Fred Henne Territorial Park,” Minister McLeod notes.
Under its Naturally Spectacular Parks Initiative, delivered by the Department of Industry Tourism and Investment, the GNWT has invested over $7.8 million in its parks over the last 4 years as a focal element of the NWT’s tourism product.
The tourism sector is an important element of the GNWT’s effort to maximize economic opportunities for NWT residents and businesses by promoting and supporting diversification in the NWT economy.
