October 22, 2010 - The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission will be hosting a series of free safety courses in Hay River, beginning on Tuesday, October 26, 2010.
The three courses, which are offered at no charge, will be held in the Alice Cambridge Room at Whispering Willows from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily.
The first course, the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Committees course, runs on Tuesday and is aimed at employees who are interested in sitting on a health and safety committee within their workplace. It outlines the process involved in establishing and maintaining an effective health and safety committee.
Wednesday’s course, Incident and Accident Investigation, is aimed towards employers, supervisors, and managers who would be responsible for conducting an investigation following an accident.
The course will teach participants the basics of conducting investigations, the legal requirements of investigations and how to properly identify the cause of accidents.
The final course, Safety Awareness, runs all day Thursday and is designed to change the assumption “accidents just happen” to “accidents are preventable.” It discusses a worker’s rights and responsibilities of maintaining a safe workplace, as well as the ability to recognize and correct hazards in the workplace.
Anyone interested in attending any of the courses is asked to call 1-800-661-0792 or (867) 920-3888, or email: firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
