Get the Shot, Not the Flu

Communiqués de presse

November 1, 2011 - The Department of Health and Social Services is reminding NWT residents that the annual flu season is quickly approaching.  Avoid the aches, fever and misery of influenza by getting your free flu shot and protecting yourself and those around you from that nasty bug.

Flu shots are especially recommended for adults and children with chronic illnesses such as cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, diabetes and cancer and morbid obesity; people who are residents of nursing homes and other chronic care facilities;  people living in a home where a newborn is expected or with an infant <6 months old; people 65 and older; healthy children six to 23 months of age; healthy pregnant women; Aboriginal people; health care workers and first responders; household contacts of individuals who are at high risk of complications from the flu.

Influenza can lead to serious complications and even death for people in high-risk groups.

Flu clinics are being held in October and November in many communities throughout the NWT. To see a list of the flu clinics in your region click here.
