March 24, 2011 - Students of the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs’ School of Community Government’s Community Recreation Leaders Certificate Program (CRLCP) now have more options for educational advancement with the signing of a transfer agreement with the College of the Rockies.
“Developing these kinds of agreements and partnerships helps provide opportunities for residents of the NWT to get valuable qualifications,” said Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs. “Together the School of Community Government and the College of the Rockies are helping people in the NWT gain knowledge and build capacity in our communities.”
“As a leader in tourism and recreation programming in Canada, College of the Rockies recognizes the quality of programming offered by the School of Community Government,” said Doug McLachlan, Vice President of Education with the college. “This partnership is an excellent model demonstrating how students in rural and remote areas can access further post-secondary education to enhance their careers.”
The agreement ensures a transfer of credits for students in the CRLCP program and a stepping-stone to further education at the College of the Rockies. These credits will allow students to pursue a certificate or diploma in Tourism and Recreation Management at the College where they will develop functional, transferable skills that enable them to gain employment in a wide variety of careers.
By pursuing transfer agreements and partnerships, the Government of the Northwest Territories is helping NWT residents build skills and widening their opportunities, as envisioned in the 16th Assembly’s vision of Northerners Working Together.
