YELLOWKNIFE (January 29, 2014) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is hosting a career fair at the Ottawa Convention Centre from January 31 to February 2, 2014. This event will showcase employment opportunities within the GNWT, particularly highlighting those related to devolution.
“We are an outstanding employer that offers excellent terms of employment, opportunities for career growth, work life balance and the chance to make a difference,” said Minister of Human Resources Tom Beaulieu. “And it’s not just us saying this – our recent awards, like the Top 100 Employers in Canada for 2013; top diversity Employer for 2013 and recognition as one of the Top 10 Innovations in Diversity illustrate this clearly. The career fair is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the GNWT and our exciting employment opportunities.”
The Department of Human Resources is taking the lead on promoting GNWT job opportunities in all regions and departments/agencies. A small number of program department staff is participating to promote opportunities specific to their department/agency. In particular, employment opportunities being created as a result of devolution, scheduled to take effect on April 1, 2014, are being highlighted.
The goals of the career fair are to raise awareness about GNWT employment opportunities in target southern markets, focus on labour markets that are aligned with our current and future opportunities, and expand engagement in the GNWT’s talent community through the Careers Webpage. Similar to Human Resources open houses that are rolling out in regional centres across the NWT to promote GNWT employment opportunities to Northern residents, the career fair is seeking to attract potential employees from other locations in Canada.
GNWT representatives will be taking the opportunity to showcase the NWT as a diverse, progressive and attractive place to work and live.
