GNWT donates to the Canadian Red Cross’ relief efforts in Nepal

YELLOWKNIFE (May 1, 2015) –  On behalf of all residents, the Government of the Northwest Territories has made a $25,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross’ emergency response efforts in Nepal. The Red Cross is providing emergency assistance following a magnitude 7.9 earthquake that struck near Kathmandu, Nepal, causing widespread devastation.

“Northerners have consistently shown their compassion in times of crisis around the world,” says Premier Bob McLeod. “The Government of the Northwest Territories is proud to support the humanitarian relief efforts of the Canadian Red Cross in Nepal.”

Canadians are encouraged to support people impacted by this disaster by making a donation to the Canadian Red Cross Nepal Region Earthquake Fund at www.redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111.

The Government of Canada has announced that it will match individual donations and monies raised specifically for Nepal until May 25th. Further information is available fromForeign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada.
