Communiqués de presse

YELLOWKNIFE (December 5, 2012) – Minister of Finance J. Michael Miltenberger released the final report on Budget Dialogue 2012 today. The report details NWT residents’ priorities for Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) program spending and ideas for ways the GNWT can spend more efficiently and effectively.

“I am pleased by the engagement of Northerners and thank everyone who took the time to participate in this important process,” said Minister Miltenberger. “Participants provided valuable ideas for improvements and confirmed that the GNWT is on the right track in its budget priorities and planning. Three overarching themes emerged, namely that we need to pay more attention to duplication of programs and services; that there are many opportunities to make better use of resources within programs; and that prevention should be a key priority for investment.”

Over 140 people or organizations attended public meetings in one of seven regional centres or submitted written remarks as part of Budget Dialogue 2012. Their input will be used in planning processes for the 2013-14 fiscal year and beyond. The results report is available on the Department of Finance’s website.

Engaging Northerners for a more effective and efficient government reflects the 17th Legislative Assembly’s vision of believing in people and building on the strengths of Northerners.
