December 11, 2010 - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held today to celebrate the completion of the Enterprise Community Centre. The new centre will meet the growing needs of the area, providing much-needed community and municipal office space.

“This new community centre will bring many benefits to the residents of Enterprise,” said the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health and Regional Minister for the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. “The Government of Canada is proud to be making strategic infrastructure investments across the North that support a growing economy, a clean environment and strong and prosperous communities.”

“Over the past few years, the Hamlet of Enterprise has evolved significantly and the new municipal office space is a much needed piece of community infrastructure,” said Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs. “Investing in community infrastructure will help build a stronger, sustainable, vibrant community, which is a key priority of our Government.”

"This is a great day for our community with the opening of this new community centre and the activities it will bring to Enterprise. We could not have completed this project without the support of the Government of Canada through the Building Canada Fund and the Government of the Northwest Territories for their ongoing assistance. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s contribution to this project,” said Allan Flamand, Mayor of Enterprise.

Federal funding for the initiative comes from the Provincial-Territorial Base Fund which is part of the Building Canada Plan. It is designed to help provinces and territories invest in core infrastructure priorities.

The Government of the Northwest Territories is working closely with the Government of Canada to ensure that infrastructure funds are spent on priorities throughout the territory. The Northwest Territories’ total federal allocation for initiatives under the Provincial-Territorial Base Fund agreement is $185.8 million, and has been fully committed towards 63 priority infrastructure initiatives worth over $310 million.

Canada and the Northwest Territories are working together to create jobs and boost the economy while making significant investments that will help communities improve their infrastructure. Both governments have agreed to work together with the Northwest Territories Association of Communities to ensure that these infrastructure funds are delivered quickly and efficiently for priority initiatives throughout the territory. Since the launch of the Economic Action Plan on January 27, 2009, $10.7 billion has been committed through Infrastructure Canada’s programs toward approximately 6,200 projects. Along with contributions from other partners such as provinces, territories and municipalities, this represents a total investment of over $30 billion.

Une cérémonie d’inauguration officielle a eu lieu aujourd’hui pour souligner l’achèvement du centre communautaire d’Enterprise. Le nouveau centre répondra aux besoins croissants de la région en offrant un espace communautaire et des locaux pour les bureaux municipaux.

« Le nouveau centre communautaire apportera de nombreux avantages aux résidants d’Entreprise, a souligné l’honorable Leona Aqlukkaq, ministre de la Santé et ministre responsable du Yukon. Le gouvernement du Canada est fier de ses investissements stratégiques en infrastructure dans le Nord, lesquels permettent d’appuyer l’économie croissante, l’assainissement de l’environnement et la prospérité des collectivités. »

« Au cours des dernières années, le hameau d’Enterprise a connu une évolution considérable, et les nouveaux bureaux municipaux répondent à un important besoin sur le plan de l’infrastructure communautaire, a ajouté Robert C. McLeod, ministre des Affaires municipales et communautaires. En investissant dans les infrastructures communautaires, nous contribuons à rendre notre communauté plus forte, plus durable et plus dynamique, ce qui constitue l’une des principales priorités du gouvernement. »

Nous n’aurions pas pu mener ce projet à terme sans le soutien du gouvernement du Canada, par l’entremise du Fonds Chantiers Canada, ainsi que du gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest, qui ont fourni une aide constante. Nous sommes sincèrement reconnaissants de la contribution de tous les participants au projet », a souligné Allan Flamand, maire d’Enterprise.

Le financement fédéral versé dans le cadre de l’initiative provient du Financement de base pour les provinces et les territoires, qui fait partie du plan Chantiers Canada. Ce fonds est conçu pour aider les provinces et les territoires à investir dans l’infrastructure pour répondre aux besoins prioritaires.

Le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest travaille en étroite collaboration avec le gouvernement du Canada pour s’assurer que les fonds d’infrastructure sont consacrés aux priorités dans le territoire. L’affectation fédérale totale versée aux Territoires du Nord-Ouest pour les initiatives aux termes du Financement de base pour les provinces et les territoires est de 185,8 millions de dollars. Cette affectation a été entièrement réservée à 63 initiatives prioritaires en matière d’infrastructure, d’une valeur de plus de 310 millions de dollars.

Le Canada et les Territoires du Nord-Ouest travaillent ensemble en vue de créer des emplois et de renforcer l’économie, tout en faisant d’importants investissements qui aideront les collectivités à améliorer leurs infrastructures. Les deux gouvernements ont accepté de travailler avec l’Association des collectivités des Territoires du Nord-Ouest pour s’assurer que les fonds d’infrastructure sont versés rapidement et efficacement pour permettre d’exécuter les initiatives prioritaires dans l’ensemble du territoire.
