Joe Handley Appointed as Stanton Public Administrator

December 16, 2011 – Minister of Health and Social Services Tom Beaulieu has appointed former Northwest Territories Premier Joseph L. Handley as Public Administrator for the Stanton Territorial Health Authority (STHA) effective December 1, 2011.

“I welcome Mr. Handley into the position of Public Administrator,” said Mr. Beaulieu.  “He brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise both from within the GNWT and as a leader.  I look forward to working with him and supporting his role as Public Administrator.”

Mr. Handley was Premier from 2003-2007. Prior to that, he held the positions of Deputy Minister in a wide range of portfolios, including Education, Renewable Resources, Transportation and Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development. After becoming MLA for Weledeh in 1999, Mr. Handley became Minister of Finance, Chairman of the Financial Management Board, Minister Responsible for the Workers’ Compensation Board, Minister of Transportation and Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Power Corporation.

The role of the Public Administrator is to assume the responsibilities of a governing body with respect to the operations and finances for the Health Authority.
