Communiqués de presse

February 22, 2011 - Putting forward the business case for federal investment in the Mackenzie Valley Highway was the primary focus when Transportation Minister Michael McLeod met with federal Transport Minister Chuck Strahl on Friday. The two Ministers were participating in the Western Transportation Advisory Council (WESTAC) meeting in Richmond, B.C.

Minister McLeod was following up on his November 2010 meeting with Minister Strahl on the Mackenzie Valley Highway, and the two Ministers had a productive discussion.

“It was good to have the opportunity again to convey to Minister Strahl the importance this Government and the Members of the 16th Assembly have placed on building an all-weather highway from Wrigley to Tuktoyaktuk,” Minister McLeod said. “I emphasized the value and benefit to all Canadians, and why the Government of Canada should provide the resources required to build this Highway.”

The Ministers also discussed Green Infrastructure and Knowledge Infrastructure funding, the Build Canada Plan program, and extensions to the stimulus program.

Minister McLeod’s visit with Minister Strahl supports the priority of the 16th Legislative Assembly to build sustainable, vibrant, safe communities by improving transportation infrastructure to connect communities and to pursue initiatives that will reduce the cost of living.
