YELLOWKNIFE (April 24, 2014) – Minister David Ramsay congratulates three RCMP members who today each received Decorations of Bravery from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, in Ottawa.

“These fine RCMP officers, through their courageous actions, have demonstrated their commitment to the people they serve in our communities. We are grateful and very proud to have them stationed here in the Northwest Territories, said Minister Ramsay.

Each of the three members exemplified the award requirements by selflessly putting the lives of others before their own. Cst. Todd Glemser and Cst. Andrew Aucoin demonstrated their bravery during a house fire in Inuvik on October 16, 2011 trying to save the life of a child. Sgt. Scott Young fought the rapids in the Slave River at Fort Smith as he saved a women struggling in the frigid waters.

“On behalf of each person in Inuvik, Fort Smith and all our communities whose lives your fearless actions have touched, please accept our heartfelt thanks," said Minister Ramsay. “We congratulate each of you today on your well-deserved honour and recognition."
