December 6, 2011- Minister David Ramsay has taken over as Chair of the Committee on Internal Trade (CIT) for the next year.
“There has been significant momentum on reducing barriers to interprovincial trade over the last few years and I will ensure this momentum continues as I take on the role of Chair,” said Minister Ramsay. “I want to thank the Government of Prince Edward Island for all of their efforts and progress as Chair this previous year.”
The Government of the Northwest Territories will host the annual CIT Ministers’ meeting in June of 2012.
CIT includes trade representatives from the federal, provincial and territorial governments. It was established through the Agreement on Internal Trade, an intergovernmental trade agreement signed by Canadian First Ministers that came into force in 1995. Its purpose is to reduce and eliminate, to the extent possible, barriers to the free movement of persons, goods, services, and investment within Canada and to establish an open, efficient, and stable domestic market.
