New Corporate Registries Online System Now Live

YELLOWKNIFE (January 13, 2014) – The Department of Justice has launched a new online Corporate Registries service.

The Corporate Registries Online System (CROS) will provide easy, 24-hour-a-day access to basic information about registered businesses and non-profit societies, such as legal name, status and the type of business for no charge.

An “entity profile” providing more in-depth information will be available for a fee of $4.00. This profile will provide links to the scanned images of documents filed by the organization, providing a web-based experience as close to, if not better than, being able to browse through physical files and paperwork. Users will also be able to save documents electronically.

Feedback received from law firms, search houses and members of the public during the test phase was used to refine the system to provide the features users wanted most: 24-hour access to searches, single click and automatic billing, an initial search screen allowing access to basic information for free and the ability to have receipts sent to a separate billing email.

Searches will still be possible during office hours in person or by phoning, faxing or emailing requests.

The Corporate Registries office is responsible for registering partnerships and certain business names, as well as incorporating businesses, societies and co-operatives. It also registers those conducting business in the NWT incorporated in other jurisdictions.

This initiative is a part of the on-going work in the Department of Justice to provide an effective and efficient government for the people of the Northwest Territories.
